Yesterday Alexandria woke up feeling warm to the touch, so I took her temperature and it was around 38C or so - a bit of a fever. She was up and down as far as her energy and mood. At lunch she wanted to go for a nap instead of eating - and she slept for about 3 hours. She was burning up when I felt her after her nap was done, so I took her temp again. 40C!! That's 104F. That's getting to the could-cause-a-febrile-seizure kind of temperature. I was a bit concerned by how high it was. I gave her some Tylenol, took her downstairs and gave her some popsicles. An hour later it had gone down to under 38C (around 101.5F). So, still a fever, but not nearly as concerning as it had been earlier. By the end of the day she was feeling pretty normal. Today her temp is fine and she's behaving like her old self again. I'm glad that was short-lived! Her daycare provider's 3 1/2 year old son had a fever on Tuesday and Wednesday when she was there (and her older son was feeling crappy yesterday, too), so I'm sure that's where she got it. Fran (the home daycare provider) felt sooooo bad, but hey, it happens. Could have just as easily been Alex getting her kids sick. I'm just hoping Zach doesn't get it. Fevers in infants are much more of a cause for concern. We'll see in a couple days..... |

A MUCH happier girl today!

We're getting there...
We finally got shelves put up in the office and playroom. That allowed us to empty A LOT of boxes - books, movies, magazines. We probably got about a 1/4 of the stuff out of the garage just by doing that! Now I can finally get the playroom set up the way it should be.
By the way, we have waaaay too many movies!

A Day Out With Thomas.. and Grandma and Grandpa
Yes. The big day for Alexandria on Sunday was to go see Thomas the Tank Engine (or Thomas the Train, as we call him). We kept it a surprise and when she saw the big train for the first time she said in a very excited little voice "It IS Thomas!!" Here are a few pictures from our big day.
Also, here are a couple links so you can see the train ride, if you wish. The videos are not very exciting. Pretty much just Alexandria looking out the window during the train ride.
I got to eat a whole bowl of soup....!
...while it was still hot!! Zach generally likes to choose mealtime to need attention. He was awake, sitting in his bouncy seat and he just watched me eat lunch. I figured a few spoonfuls into it he'd start fussing, but nope. I got through the whole thing. Then I thought, OK, should I push it and open the yogurt, too? He was getting squirmy, but I decided to press my luck (no whammies) opened it anyway. I got about halfway through that and he gave his little "yell" that says, "Look, if you don't get me soon I WILL start crying! Don't make me start crying! Because I will if I have to!"
This may not seem like a huge feat, but you moms out there know what I mean!!

Has it really been three months?!
I can't believe Zachary is 3 months old today! Man, it goes by quickly. Luckily the fussiness is pretty much over. The first 8 weeks were quite something.... He's sleeping in his crib every night and gets up about every 4 hours or so throughout the night. He'll still do the odd 5 hour stretch - or 3 - but he is going longer and longer.... He's behind Alex on this one. She was sleeping through the night at this point. I think we were a weeee bit spoiled with her! I'm just so glad we breed sleepers!
Tomorrow is going to be a really big, fun day for Alexandria! I'll post more about that later.

Thanks to anyone I've forgotten at the moment!!
At the Splash Pad
He laughed!
Those baby laughs make it all worthwhile! It was a small one, but it definitely a laugh. All I was doing was sucking my teeth and making funny noises, but man, did Zach find it funny!!

We got out of the house!
Without the kids! For a whole night (until about 1:30am)! (Thanks Grandma and Grandpa - who came to our place and stayed over with the kids). Yes, Daddy and I got to go out - together. We went to see Ron do comedy. He was headlining and it was very funny. (Which it better have been, because it took us almost 3 hours to get there!! Should have only taken, at most, 1.5 hours.... Stupid traffic...) Our dinner was a quick munch at Subway rather than a sit-down, but it was still nice to get out.
Zachary is doing really well on his tummy. He can push up with his arms/hands and stay up for a bit. As my doctor said, "That's a four-month-old trick. You know that, right?" (Zach was 11 weeks at the time). He can keep his upper body and head up while reaching out for things now. He's also getting pretty good at his aim. He'll grab my finger with both his hands and put it in his mouth. As for sleep? That's actually going fairly well. He's consistently doing at least one "long" sleep (usually about 5 hours, sometimes 4, and rarely, but sometimes 6 hours). He's in his crib at night and goes right back in to sleep after he eats in the middle of the night, which is great.
Alexandria is fazing out her afternoon naps, which is really fun..... She's at the point where she doesn't need a nap in the afternoon, but by dinner she needed a nap! It makes her really fun for the rest of the evening!! She was in quite a state yesterday morning (after about 2 -3 days with no afternoon nap). Grandpa and Grandma got to witness that one. A few meltdowns. She's also getting more stubborn and has "hearing issues" (a glimpse into her teen years, maybe?). She is still so fun to be around, though, and has a great imagination. She still loves her little brother - even though today she said, "Zachary gets to do whatever he wants". Then a minute later, "I don't get to do what I want."
Oh, and this one. I had to keep my serious face on, but it was hard. I was asking her to put something back. I asked once nicely, twice nicely, the third time a bit more stern, then the fourth time in my "loud voice". She looked at me a went "Geez" in a very grown-up tone. (She then put the item back.) I got her into her seat at the table and I said "Mommy was getting frustrated". She said "No, you were mad". She's getting more and more "grown-up" all the time. Where'd my baby go?!

Twice the man he used to be....
Zachary had his two-month appointment on Friday and he's weighing in at 11 lbs! He was 5 lb 10 when he was born, so he's only 4 oz away from doubling his weight. He's also gone from 46 cm to 60 cm long. He got his first round of shots at that appointment, too. Poor little dude! He was a bit cranky that evening. Who wouldn't be? Actually it was probably the 2 1/2 hour car ride home from the doctor. It should have only been about an hour. Gotta love rush hour traffic... We should really switch doctors to one closer. We just love ours so much! Thanks so much to Grandma for coming. I don't know what I would have done with Zach and Alex on my own....
Alexandria is off to Nana and Grandpa's for a couple of sleeps. They're going to hit the zoo tomorrow. Should be a blast!
The furniture comes on Wednesday. (I should probably call to confirm that!)
It is so nice to be so close to our friends now! I can just zip over and Alex can play with Lilly or Grace. I love our new neighbourhood, too. Can't wait to meet more of the neighbours. I think there are a few kids around for Alex and Zach to play with. And it is soooo nice to be able to just walk out of the house and go for a stroll!
I wonder what Zach and I will get up to tomorrow all by ourselves....

We're in, but not settled
We're officially living at our new residence! YAY!! It will be a looooong time, though, before we are officially "settled" into our new place. There are boxes EVERYWHERE.. and thank goodness we have a garage. Who knew we had so much stuff?! The kidlets are adapting well. Alexandria was very excited to be in the new place. (I'll post the video and some pictures soon). We'll be without internet until Saturday. I'm just checking in while we're at Grandma and Grandpa's for the Canada Day festivities. Alex really enjoyed the parade and Zach slept right through it - bagpipes, bands, firetrucks and all!
